report-iom-world-migration-2011The International Organization on Migration has released its sixth report on the "World Migration Report 2011: Communicating effectively about Migration." This report highlights the negative perception of migrants in host societies. But, in the coming years, migration will increase and create mixed societies : fight this received ideas become necessary in the host countries.


The first part of the report highlights media’s responsibility in the dissemination of this negative image and how it influences public policies. It recommends to improve a better understanding and recognition of the benefits of migration, to develop policies based more on facts and to ensure a greater participation of migrants themselves in the debates on migration.


The second part is about IOM's history and the evolution of its missions "in response to the significant political, economic and social changes."
